Our Sunday School classes are set up to teach your kids the Word of God at
their level. Along with the curriculum we are teaching in our Sunday school classes
we are also trying to teach one of the foundations of Christianity at each age level.
Children’s Ministry
Along with the curriculum we are teaching in our Sunday school classes we are also trying to teach one of the
foundations of Christianity at each age level. Each class is outlined below with what we are teaching and how
you can work with your child to help them learn these principles.
Preschool (ages 3 to 5): Christian Fellowship
Why do we go to church anyway? In Hebrews 10:23-25 we read about how as Christians we should not give up
meeting together to worship and encourage each other. At this age we are simply teaching the kids that it is important
to go to church and to have fellowship with other Christians. As parents you can encourage your children simply
by bringing them to church and sending them to their class! In this class we also teach a Bible point each week.
At the end of class if your child can recite the point they will get a stamp on their hand. If your child comes out of
class with a stamp ask them, “What’s the point?”
Early Elementary (Kindergarten & 1st grade): The Bible is God’s Word
Is the Bible just a story, like the fairy tales we learned as a kid? NO WAY! At this age we want to teach the children
that the Bible is the Word of God. It is our way of getting to know God and every word of it is true it is NOT a story.
In John 1 we read that the Word was with God and the Word was God and that He was with God in the Beginning.
The Word became flesh and He was Jesus sent to earth! We want kids to understand that when they read the Bible
they are reading God’s words for THEM. As parents you can teach your children this principle by making sure that
they have their own Bible. When you do devotions at home have them look up the scripture in THEIR own Bible.
Whenever you read as a family reinforce to your children that what they are reading REALLY DID happen!
Elementary (2nd grade to 4th grade): Scripture Memorization
Time and time again the Bible talks about the importance of memorizing scripture. Psalm 119:11 tells us that the way
to keep our hearts pure is to hide God’s Word in our hearts. When we are looking for direction we need only turn to
the Word of God (Psalm 119:105). The Bible also tells us that our only weapon against Satan and temptation is the
Word of God (Eph. 6:17). Therefore it is important for us to teach children that the key to their spiritual growth is the
Word of God and when they have it memorized God can easily speak to them when they are in the moment of a
situation. As parents it is important for you to encourage your child to memorize the scripture. In class students are
given a list of verses for the month. They can memorize these right from THEIR own Bibles and recite them in class
to the teacher. They will receive rewards for memorizing scripture, but our focus must be on the reason we do it.
Make sure that you emphasize that with your children.
Pre-Teens (5th & 6th grade): Daily relationship with Jesus
Kids now understand that the Bible is the Word of God and that it is important for them to hide scripture in their
hearts, but what comes next? We must teach kids that Christianity is a relationship and that in order to build a good
relationship you must nurture it every day. Think about it, if your spouse only talked to you once a week, how would
you feel? It is the same thing with God, if our only communication with Him is on Sundays, is our relationship
growing? Is it even a good relationship? As these kids become teenagers they will be walking into the most
challenging years of their lives so how will we prepare them? By training them to cultivate a relationship with
Jesus EVERYDAY! Kids will be given homework each week that has DAILY readings on them with a question
for each day. As parents, encourage your kids to do their homework EACH day not all of it at the end of the week.
The point of the homework is for them to be building a daily relationship not just to get it done. After your child
has finished their school homework ask them if they have done their church homework for the day yet. You can also
encourage them by talking with them about your daily relationship with God. Discuss when you do your devotions
and what you are currently reading. If your child knows that you are doing it they will know that it is a natural
part of the Christian life.

your kids about them at dinner tonight!)
